Danio rerio

With popular aquarium fish like these, it is sometimes impossible to establish whether a population is wild or feral. Today, D. rerio appears to live in the Himalaya foothills in India and Myanmar, and probably Pakistan and Nepal too. They live both in stagnant and flowing water and in varying temperatures.

One of the best-known and best-studied aquarium fish. Easy to keep, fun to watch, easy to breed. Can be kept with any fish that won't eat them. Not fussy eaters either. They are subtropical fish and do fine in an unheated tank with seasonal temperature fluctuations.
